Millions of orphaned and vulnerable children around the world are growing up without the love of a family. But there is clear and compelling research on the damaging effects of traditional, institutional orphan care.
The Hope Effect is getting kids out of orphanages and into loving families…where they belong.
We are changing the primary care model of governments from institutional-based to family-based. In simplest terms, we start foster care where it doesn’t exist. Kids do best when they are raised in families.
Approximately 80% of children living in orphanages worldwide actually have family members who could care for them. We get children out of orphanages and back into their biological families.
U.S. Christians donate $2.5 billion a year to orphanages around the world. Research is clear - family is better. We promote a better way of orphan care to church leaders, church members, and other good-hearted people.

Alberto
Born to a mother struggling with drug addiction, Alberto was placed into an orphanage immediately after he was born. After several months in institutional care, he showed signs of several developmental delays. But when he was five months old, he was welcomed into loving family care, where he began to thrive! Daniela
Daniela was placed into an orphanage as an infant because her mother was unable to care for her. When she should have been surrounded by the love of a family, she was being cared for by a rotating staff of employees at the orphanage. Ernesto was abandoned in the hospital as a newborn and immediately processed into an orphanage. For the first few months of his life, he was without the love of a family.
