Bringing More Hope To Morelia

Last month, we announced the exciting news that The Hope Effect has expanded into our newest location – Morelia, Michoacán, a city located in central Mexico. We are thrilled to see the family-style care movement growing around the world!

While we were able to announce the location, we haven’t yet had the opportunity to share many details about our involvement and work in this city! As we were getting ready to make our announcement, the state of Michoacán was gearing up for its election day, which always takes place in early June. The law in Michoacán prevented us from discussing our work with the government so close to an election.

Now that election day is over, we’re excited to share more information, along with photos from our contract signing with the government of Michoacán!

A Government Invitation

The process to introduce family-style care into a new location can be lengthy, as it often involves passing new legislation and creating new policies. Until recently, the only option for orphaned and vulnerable children in Michoacán was institutional orphan care – there was no legal option for family-style care.

Thankfully, the government of Michoacán is full of good-hearted, forward-thinking people who want a better future for their children. And based on our work and results in other parts of Mexico, the government invited us to help bring family-style care to its capital city.

New Laws and Better Solutions

For the last several months, our team in Michoacán has been working with the government to develop laws and policies for implementing family-style care. We are so thankful the government brought us in early so we could advocate for children and help shape the procedures.

Earlier this year, the law was finalized and passed. And in May, we signed an official contract with the government, making The Hope Effect the first nonprofit to receive approval to provide family-style care in Michoacán. We are incredibly honored...and thanks to you, we're positioned to get started right away!

A Better Future for the kids of Morelia

In fact, the first child in Morelia has already been placed into family-style care! We can’t wait to share his story with you, and we know there will be more great news to come. With your partnership, we believe we can see every child under age three living in a loving family within the next three years, and every orphanage in Morelia empty by the year 2030!

Stay tuned for more updates from Morelia. In the meantime…take a look below for a few more photos from the signing day!

Thank you so much for your continued support – you make all this possible. We are so grateful for you. Together, we are changing the way the world cares for orphans!
