Since 2015, The Hope Effect has been working to change the way the world cares for orphans. We believe every child deserves a family. That’s why, with your support, we are working in several locations around the world to get orphaned and vulnerable children out of orphanages and into loving families.
In places like Mexico, Honduras, Cambodia, and Thailand, more children are growing up knowing the love of a family…because of you. It’s been incredible to see the family care movement grow and gain momentum across the globe thanks to your support and generosity.

The Hope Effect will be working in the capital city of Monterrey, where there is such a need to help children and families. Read on to learn more about how you’ll be making an impact in Nuevo León!
The Need in Nuevo León
If you’ve been following The Hope Effect for some time, you may know we’ve been working in multiple states in Mexico for the last several years. Our work and results in Sonora, Michoacán, and Chihuahua have paved the way and opened doors in other states in Mexico.
We are so excited to broaden our reach in Mexico to Nuevo León. The capital city of Monterrey is an industrial city, with many people living below the poverty line. As a result, family separation is a large problem in this city.
Orphanages in Monterrey (and across the globe) have taken on the role of poverty alleviation. Research indicates that approximately 80% of children living in institutional care worldwide actually have family members who could care for them.
However, families living in poverty often struggle to provide for their children. So loving parents – trying to give their children a better future – send them to orphanages in hopes they will have safe shelter, nutritious food, and access to education. But while these parents are trying to make the right choice for their kids, they often aren’t aware of the dangers and damaging long-term effects of being raised in an institutional environment.
We know there is a better way. We know every child deserves a family.
Our Approach in Nuevo León
The children of Monterrey deserve to grow up in their loving families, where they have the opportunity to grow and thrive. That’s why we are so grateful for you…because with your support, we will change lives in Monterrey.
The Hope Effect Is joining forces with an experienced partner – Back2Back Mexico – to get more children out of orphanages and back into their families. We are coming alongside Back2Back to focus on reintegration, meaning we will get children who are currently living in orphanages back into their loving families.
This is such important work, because when a child leaves institutional care, the adjustment back into family life can be challenging for everyone involved. Through the Strong Families program, we will support children and families through this critical transition using an intentional, collaborative strategy.
Our approach is to evaluate and address the needs of each child and family based on five points of development: physical, educational, emotional, spiritual, and social. Each member of the family receives a customized development plan to ensure a successful transition and a healthy family dynamic.
This program has already seen incredible success, and we are thrilled that as we expand into Nuevo León, more children will grow up in loving families…where they belong.
