Confidence Through Connection: Armando’s Story

At just five years old, Armando* was placed in an orphanage after suffering neglect in his biological home. For more than two years, he lived in institutional care—without visits from his mother or any extended family.

At an age that children should be surrounded by love, playing freely, and growing with the support of family, Armando was raised in institutional care. The effects were visible. Like many children living in orphanages, he began to show developmental delays. He was withdrawn, avoided eye contact, and rarely spoke.

Thankfully, everything changed when he was welcomed into the arms of a loving family.

a new beginning

When Armando was seven, a foster family opened their home and hearts to him. Because of his age and early experiences, he needed time and repeated visits to begin forming a connection—but his foster family patiently built trust.

In July 2024, Armando transitioned into their care. From the beginning, they provided the personalized attention he had long been missing. Medical checkups revealed untreated gum disease, which had delayed the growth of his permanent teeth.

With the proper care, Armando began to heal—quickly. Within weeks, his teeth started coming in, and his physical health improved. In addition, his skin and hair grew healthier. And the changes were not just physical—they gave Armando a newfound confidence and joy.

gaining Confidence Through Connection

Though shy at first, Armando slowly opened up. He began speaking more fluently, using clearer language and expressing his emotions. He now interacts warmly and positively with both adults and peers.

In school, he earns excellent grades and participates in extracurricular activities. His confidence continues to grow as he learns and tries new things.

His foster family also supports him through challenges that arise. Armando previously feared animals after being bitten by a dog when he was younger, but his family is helping him overcome that fear—showing empathy, patience, and love every step of the way.

new possibilities

As Armando continues to heal and grow, he’s also discovering new interests. He recently joined a local soccer team and has embraced teamwork, discipline, and the joy of play. Soccer has become a bonding activity for the whole family—they even spend Friday evenings watching or attending games together.

Now eight years old, Armando is thriving. He is joyful, healthy, and full of hope—for a future of possibility. His story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a child is placed in a loving, supportive family.

And it’s all possible because of you.
