Finding Each Other: Daisy and Damian’s Story

Being a family means you are a part of something very wonderful. It means you will love and be loved for the rest of your life.
— Lisa Weed

Orphaned and vulnerable children find families in many different ways. Some children may spend time in foster care and later be reunited with their biological family. Other children may transition out of foster care and into the home of a grandparent, aunt or uncle, or other extended family members. Still others will eventually be adopted into their forever family.

Daisy and Damian, two young children from Chihuahua, Mexico, found family they didn’t know existed. And while their journey was full of ups and downs, we are thankful they found each other in addition to finding the love of a family.

Daisy’s Story

Daisy was abandoned by her mother at a young age and placed in foster care. In a stable family environment, this beautiful little girl thrived. Daisy bonded extremely well with her foster family, fitting right in as she received the love and care she deserved.

After a few months, authorities in Chihuahua located Daisy’s biological grandmother. Authorities determined Daisy’s grandmother was able to care for her, so Daisy went to live with her.

However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Daisy’s grandmother found herself unemployed. As a result, she was unable to provide for Daisy. Not knowing where else to turn, she reached out to Daisy’s foster family. The foster family loved Daisy so much that they decided to welcome her back into their home…along with her grandmother!

Unfortunately, Daisy’s grandmother began stealing from the foster family. Daisy’s foster family eventually reported the thefts to the authorities. Daisy’s grandmother declared herself unfit to care for her granddaughter and signed adoption release forms so Daisy would be eligible for adoption.

But the story doesn’t end there…

Damian’s Story

In a city nearby, a baby boy was born to a woman struggling with drug addiction. When authorities saw the mother’s condition, they placed baby Damian in foster care.

Damian spent the first months of his life being loved and cared for by his amazing foster family. After about ten months, the government began searching for any biological relatives. Their investigation would determine if he could live with a family member or if he would be eligible for adoption.

Authorities located his grandmother, only to discover they had already met her before during their search for Daisy’s relatives. Incredibly, the authorities learned that Daisy and Damian are biological siblings.

Sadly, their mother had passed away not long after Damian was born. Daisy and Damian’s grandmother was still not able to care for them, so she signed Damian’s release for adoption as she had done with Daisy. We are so thankful that although the siblings were initially in separate foster homes, they will be adopted together into their forever family!
