Finding a Forever Family: Jorge, Alicia, and Juan's Story

Today is Orphan Sunday, a day where people across the globe come together with a shared vision - to stand up for orphans and vulnerable children.

Most orphans in developing countries are cared for in orphanages. However, institutional care often has devastating long-term effects on physical, emotional, and psychological development. All around the world, there are children in desperate need of a family.

And that's where you come in! You are changing the way the world cares for orphans by providing loving family-style care.

So on this Orphan Sunday, we celebrate the children whose lives have been changed by your generosity! Today, we celebrate Jorge, Alicia, and Juan. Read on to learn how you helped them find a family.

Jorge, Alicia, and Juan's Story

Jorge (age 12), Alicia (age 10), and Juan (age 8) are siblings living in Chihuahua, Mexico. They were abandoned by their parents and sent to an orphanage.

Authorities made the decision to keep the siblings together, meaning all three would need to be adopted by the same family. As you might imagine, that limited the number of families who may be interested in adopting the kids.

From false hope…

Over a period of time, the siblings were actually adopted several times. Unfortunately, each adoption was unsuccessful. All of the families eventually sent them back to the orphanage, stating that the three siblings were just too much to handle.

As Jorge, Alicia, and Juan endured multiple unsuccessful adoptions, they moved around from one orphanage to another…never really belonging anywhere. Never having a true home.

But thankfully, their lives were about to change.

…to a forever family

Luis and Michelle previously provided family-style care to a child who had been reunited with his biological family. When asked if they would bring Jorge, Alicia, and Juan into their home, they didn’t hesitate!

They immediately welcomed the siblings with open arms, providing love, protection, and stability. And the story doesn’t end there!

The authorities decided to offer Luis and Michelle the option to adopt the siblings after a trial period. And Luis and Michelle agreed! They are currently in the trial period, and they have already started the adoption process for the children.

Today, Jorge, Alicia, and Juan are doing great, and we are so thankful they found their forever family!
